As Malta makes great strides in the roll-out of its vaccination programme, bringing ‘post-COVID normality’ ever closer and within reach, the debate of initiating a return to the office, continuing to work from home, or a mix of both, has been brought to the fore once more.

Sharing his thoughts on the debate, Franco Azzopardi, CEO of Express Trailers, says that the working from home (WFH) trend has created quite a bit of buzz, and does have its advantages.

“But are we putting into the scales, the nature versus nurture debate” he asks. “Are we a product of our genes as humans or are we a product of our experiences?”

Mr Azzopardi believes that one’s genes provide tremendous abilities, but it is one’s experiences that make them who they are.

“It is interaction with family and society and colleagues at work that give us conscience, compassion, expression, managerial and leadership qualities,” he asserts.

“So I think we should not ignore what WFH will deprive our future leaders of, that can only be imparted to them through experience and connection and interaction with role models and leaders in their own right, having been themselves a product of experiences from those who came before them.”
